SHIPWRECK RELIEF SOCIETY
ANNUAL MEETING. The seventeenth annual meeting of th? New Zealand Shipwreck Relief Society was held yesterday afternoon, the Mayor (Mr W. Begg) in t-he chair; present: Sir George Fenwick, Messrs D. K Tbeomin, . J. A. Park. 0. W. Chamberlain, Captain * Beaumont, P. 0. Bridgeman, and E. C. Hazktt. On the motion of the Chairman it was decided to write to Mr T. W. Whitson sympathising with him in his present illness. In moving the adoption, of the annual report and balance-sheet the Mayor said they would be pleased to see'by the report that the relief during the laft 12 months hid been very negligible indeed. It was to be regretted that the society had lost one' of their most, valuable members by the death of Mr Charles Brown. Mr J. A. Park seconded the motion, which was earned without further discussion.
Mr C. W. Chamberlain moved that rule 6 b© altered, substituting “ March ” for x “December” in second line and “April” for “January” in third'line. The rule as amended would thus read:—“ The society’s financial year shall end: on March 31 in each year, and all subscriptions shall fall due on April 1 following.” Mr 0. W. Chamberlain also moved that rule 24 be altered by deleting the words “in the month of February in each year” and substituting “ as soon after the' close of the financial year as possible” in lieu thereof, and by deleting the word “December ” in fifth line, and substituting “ March ’’ in lieu thereof. The rule amended would thus read A general meeting of the society shall be held as soon after the dose of the financial year as possible on a day to be fixed by the Central Committee. At this meeting a report of the society's transactions for the past year, ended March 31, together with a statement of accounts, certified as correct by .an auditor, shall bo submitted. At this me’eting the members of the Central Committee not being ex-officio members shall be. elected, and all business shall be transacted which may be brought forward. ”
Both these motions were put to tha meeting and carried unanimously. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows : —Patron, the Governor-General of New Zealand ; vice-patrons—Right Hon. W. F. Massey and Sir W. H. Hemes; president, the Hon. M r Justice Sim ; hon. solicitor, Mr J. A. Cook; auditor, Mr C. Russell Smith; executive—Sir George Fenwick, Messrs F. O. Bridgeman, Gaptain Beaumont, 0. W. Chamberlain, H. R. Spence, W. Clarke, G. L. Denniston, S. Falla, E. G. Hazlett, J. A. Park, D. E Theomin, and T. W. Whitson. A vote of thanks to the choir concluded the meetinsr.
