THE ROYAL VISIT
FOOTBALL MATCH SUGGESTED. [Psa United Pbess Absooiation.] WELLINGTON,’ April 13. A deputation from the Technical Schtal, Education Board, and athletic todies waited on the Mayor (Mr Luke) to urge the intrusion -of football matches in the Prince’s programme. The idea was to devote the proceeds to securing a ground for children and technical* College students. It was stated that tie Rugby Union hod offered to arrange a match between, the soldiers’ team which won the King’s Cup apd last year’s winners of tho Raufuvly Shield. Tie Mayor accepted the offer, and said he would ask the' authorities to allow the match to be included.
PORT CHALMERS. A -peering convened by the Mayor (Mr -i ‘Si. , venßon ) was held in the Council Chambers, Port Chalmers, yesterday evening to make arrangements In connection with the Prince’s visit tp the town. Mr Stevenson presided. He said a telegram to hand that day from the Minister of Internal Affairs, stated that the programme submittd by the Mayor of Dunedm, providing for a visit to Port Chalmers by the Prince on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 18, had been aporoved. His Worship said the Prince woulcl leave Danodin at 2.55 p.m., and motor along the Upper Junction road to the water i° U > on Waitati road, then round the Mihiwaka road, and down past the Soott Memorial Oaim to Port Chalmers. The Mayor afid councillors would receive the Prince officially at tho Botundu, •where an address would be presented. The Prince--would then meet the school children and the returned soldiers, afterwards inspecting the docks in ccanpany with the chairman of the Harbor Board. His Worship said the committees to be appointed that evening would decide the best route for the Prince to enter the town, and also have charge of the suitable decoration of the town for the day. It was quite competent for the children from Sawyer’s Bay School to -join the Port Chalmers School children for the afternoon if they washed to do so. The following committees were appointed t Reception Committee—-Mayor and councillors; Decoration Committee—Messrs W. Wilson (convener), W. Morgan, J. Y. A. - Fullerton, L. G. Newton, and v\. Lunn; School Children Committee—Messrs J. M‘Lachlan (convener) G P Booth, P. Eagar, J. Gray, Captain Brace-* girdle, Revs. S. H. Bishop. W, M. Grant,’ J. M. Simpson. J. O’Reilly; Band Committee—Messrs J. Taifc (convener), D. A. Do Mans, and A. Peters-; Returned Soldiers’ Ccnnhittee—Lieutenant H. S. Montgomery (convener). Owing to the numerous difficulties in the way, the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association will not supply the guard of honor of 100 men for the Prince of Wales. The uniforms returned men alb not in a fit condition for such a ceremonial parade, and it is probable also that they would not haw the time to practise. Under these circumstances it has been decided, that the guard -will be provided by a Territorial unit, probably the 4th (Otago) Regiment.
