MOSGIEL NOTES
The boys from the Gram's Braes Orphanago, Anderson Bay, \v-e;e entertained at the Recreation Ground, Mosgiel, en Saturday afternoon. They were the guests of the Mosgiel Women's Guild. The visiting hoys marched to the ground headed by ihe Mosgiel High School Fife and Drum Band, and shortly after arrival were regaled with a hot three-course dinner. .Sports were 'afterwards held—races, tugof war, etc;. In the- latter event the visiting lads were superior to a team from the band. The Bev. D. Cakler welcomed the- boys and their guardians, and remarked on the tine sturdy appearance of the lads. Mr Rosevear thanked the Mosgiel ladies on behalf of the boys and the stall for giving the outing, which, he said, they all enjoyed. The members of the orphanage staff present were :—Mr and Mts Roscfoar (in charge), and the Misses Fraser, M'Leod, Alexander, and Duncan (assistants). After an enjoyable afternoon had been spent, tea was "served, at the conclusion of which the boys were marched to station, headed by the band. The Women'* Guild are deserving of praise on the success of the outing, the secretary (Miss Barkley) being ably assisted bv the other members. The drum and fife band also came in for some well-deserved congratulation on their fine turn-out, and their instructor (Mr Kaye) is to be complimented on the result" of his efforts. The Friendly Societies of Mosgiel held a church parade yesterday, which was largely attended, there being present over 100 members of the four local lodges, as wel! as several members of the Firo Brigade. The lodges represented were the ladies' Foresters, Foresters, Oddfellows, and Druids. The procession was headed by the Mosgiel Brass Band, and gnarched from the Oddfellows' Hall to Factory road and back to the Baptist Church."
