HOW WALLACE BROWNLOW WENT OUT
HIS LAST LETTER. The body of Walter Brownlow, next to Charles Ryley the most admired actorvocalist who ever trod the comic operatic stage of Australasia, was found (as beforo reported) in the Exhibition grounds at Melbourne early on tho morning of Sunday, September' 7, with the throat cut and a 'razor lying alongside. In his pocket was discovered a letter which too plainly explained the cause, of his rash act —the work! had no room for him. Just prior to his death ho had been residing at Fullers' Hotel in Bourko street, and for a while had been employed at. the influenza hospital within the Exhibition grounds; while before that he had gained his living as a member of the permanent guuid. The letter found on the body read: " Dear Ca-ldcr, —Just a few lines to thank you for your past kindness. You were the only one to stick to me right through, but I am houSed out, and up against it. My body will be taken to the morgue, and vou can give it to the medical students to practise on. Any things which you may .find in my roo'ii't leave to you. P.S. — You might give, the lift boys some of my ties and shirts. They have been very good."
