LIGHTING AND SCRUB CLEARING ON THE TOWN BELT.

TO THE EDITOR. Fir,—l desire to draw attention to the imlighted condition of the footpaths on the Town Belt, especially those leading to 3lornington from, the City. Take, for hi-tance, the path from the High street steps to M'Neo street, Moruiugton, which is the entrance to 3lorningtnn, and very much used. This path should have two electric lights between the step and M'Nce .street, or dectric lights installer! on some of the long poles on the tram lin<\ and the intervening shrubs thinned out and topped. Immediate attention to the lighting of the. Belt is -wanted ; also, the overgrown shrubberies should be thinned to a condition similar to the small -plantation corner of the Queen's Drive and tram line, as Tinder present conditions it is not safe oven in -daytime for women and children to cross the Belt. With the shortage of coal, I presume we will be, faced with a restricted night tram service. Probably the trains will nut run all the present night hours during the peace celebrations, as the tram employees will want to take their part in the demonstrations, and we do not want the same conditions as during the influenza epidemic, when young women whose vocations kept them in town till after darkness were forced to cross the vinlighted Town Belt.—l am. etc., Pedes.
