BOWLING

ST. KEM3A- OMJ'B. The annual meeting of above club last night was well attended, My J. J. Maa-low presiding over tho meeting of shareholders. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet the Chairman said that some trouble had heen experienced in regardi to the rates demanded 1 under the borough's system of rating on unimproved- values; but after cciunderaibl© negotiation a satisfactory agreement had been come to. The ehib had come out with a very small credit balance on the year's proceedings—so small that it showed the need of caco in the future. Mr-Harlow went on to refer to the olujb's latest acquisition of a flagpole, for which he gave alt the oredit to Mr "Gus" Nelson.—The motion was seconded and adopted. Messrs J. J. Marlow and A. H. Allen (retiring directors), Messrs M. H. Priest and H. Harris (retiring auditors), Mr A. -H. Allen (treasurer), and Mr W. P. Ormond (secretary) were re-elected. Mr H. Harris presided over the meeting of club members. He said that the report in hands of members dealt with matters very frilly. Membere knew that the club had lost their elected president (Mr J. G. Robertson), and he asked those present to stand in respect to his memory. This was done. Mr Harris went on to refer to tho club's somewhat indifferent record in interchib matches. The main object, however, was not the winning of matches, but to give as many as possible a chance of a game. He hoped this object would be kept in view and pursued. There had been dissatisfaction at the way in which the intovelnb matches had been carried out. and they all hoped that tho Centre would find a bettor eyetem for next season. Mr Harris said that, now the war was finished, increased attention would be paid to the social side, and the Winter Club had been resuscitated with that object in view. It was intended to hold a general social gathering with lady friends. He moved the adoption of the report. Mr M. J. Hade seconded, and the motion was carried.

Mr W. Jacobsen (green supervisor) presented a report on the condition and prospects of the green, for which he was thanked. Mr M. J. Hade was elected president amid general applause, several members testifying to the good work he had already done and expressing confidence that he would make a success at the head of affairs. Other officers elected were: —Vice-presi-dent. Mr W. M'Alister ; secretary, Mr W. P. Onnond; treasurer, Mr A. PL Allen; assistant secretary, Mr J. H. Hinton; green supervisor, Mr W. Jacobßen; committee—Messrs J. Elvidge, D. M. Stuart, J. J. Marlow, G. G. Adess, A. Nelson, and W. Weatherburn; sole selector, Mill. Hellyer; delegates to Centre—Messrs Allen, Jacobsen, and Harris." It was resolved to support the four-rink contest, and to enter for it if continued. A motion to enter up to 16 rinks for interclub plav was carried as against an amendment that 12 be entered. The meeting began and onded by all joining in the National Anthem. KAITUNA CLUB. The above club held their thirtieth annual meeting last night, about 50 members being present. Mr F. M. Shortt presided. The Chairman thanked Mr and Mrs A. M'Kenzio for the way in which they had carried out the duties of the president's office .during his prolonged absence in America. The club's finances were none too satisfactory. During the past five years the club's liability had 1 been reduced to the extent of £59. ' This was not sufficient, and something better would have to be done. The necessity for the reduction of the debt was accentuated by the fact that they had to do something to improve their property. The building needed repairs, and more money would have to be spent on. the ground. He expressed deep regret at the losses the club had suffered by the deatli3 of several members. He moved the adoption of the report. Li seconding the motion, Mr J. G. Moody said the club were particularly indebted to Mr A. M'Kenzio (who for a lunre portion of the seaso'n had acted as president) and to the painstaking secretary (Mr S. J. Bligli). He also made a suggestion that the selectors should call on a wider circle of names during the coming season, The motion was then carried. The office-bearers appointed wore: President, Mr A. M'Kenzie; vice-presi-dent. Mr J. Stevenson : secretary, Mr S. J. Bligh; treasurer, Mr J. Allan; committee—Messrs li. Frapwell, P. Seelye, J. (r. Patterson, S. Mirams, J. G. Moody, and J. H. Walker; auditor, Mr W. Forrester ; delegates to Dunedin Centre, Messrs M'Kenzio and Allan ; sole selector, Mr 0. Lambourne; coaches to young players, Messrs W. Mills'and H. Frapwell ; supervisor of club ilea, Mr J. U. Moody. An'alteration of the club's rules providing that the committee appoint the Social and Grounds Committee, not necessarily from their own number, as in the past, was carried. Mr J. Allan moved that the subscription be. increased from £2 12s 6ci to £3 for full members and from £1 la to £1 10s for honorary members, arguing that (he financial condition of tha club necessitated the increase. .Mr S. Mirams seconded the motion, which was opposed by Mr J. H. Walker, who contended that all the funds necessary could be obtained by increasing the membership. After a long discussion the matter was referred to the committee, witii power to act. Votes of thanks were passed to retiring officials and lady friends, and a social i hour followed.
