The story moves through many thrilling episodes with increasing interest, and is one of tho most gripping pictures in which Gloria Swanson has yet appeared. Tho bill of fare at tho King’s is an exceptionally fine one, tho chief film being tire picturisation of Rider Haggard’s novel ‘ Jess,’ entitled ‘ Heart and Soul,’ starring Theda Bara. Tho supporting items are a comedyq ‘ Winning a Husband ’; an industrial, ‘Cultivation of Coffee’; a scenic, ‘ Palace of Fontainbloau ’; and a gazette, PLAZA. Tho double star programme at this theatre to-day continues to draw laiyre audiences. The first picture is ‘ Betrayed,’ featuring Miriam Cooper; the second being ‘ The Heart of Romance,’ with June Caprice in the leading role. Included in the supports is a Mult and Jeff cartoon and a comedy. EVERYBODY’S. Heading the programme at Everybody’s to-day is a remarkable photo-play entitled ‘ The Danger Game.’ The popular actress Madge Kennedy plays the principal part in this picture. ‘The Danger Game’ contains an element of mystery, as well as a love story. The supports are good. LYRIC PICTURES, PORT CHALMERS. The attraction to-night at the Lyric Pictiu’es, Port Clialmers, will be tire Paramount photo-play ‘Her Own People,’ in which Lenore Ulrich has a part which gives her an opportunity of displaying her remarkable abilities. The story is thrilling, and the leva passages between John Kemp and Morning Star, a little Indian girl, are most appealing. For the taking of tho Indian scenes tho Pallas Company w, s t high up into the Californian mountains and camped beside a beautiful lake. Some ex- ! quisite moonlight effects havo been obtained of tho lake, with the figure of tho little Indian maid in silhouette. An entire tribe of Indians wore used for the scenes depicting Indian camp life, many of the Indians taking part in tlm actual acting, much to their own gratification and the amusement oi the Pallas players. Tho programme supporting this fine picture is up to date.
