DISASTER IN THE PACIFIC
CUTTER JANET LOST WITH ALL HANDS. [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, March 17. A cable has been received by Messrs Tyndall and Ross, which states that their cutter Janet was lost with ail hands be tween Vavau and Kennel's Island, whencthe vessel was despatched on December 23 to roprovis'on the island. The captain is a European, and had a crew of seven natives. There was probably one European passenger, whose name is unknown. It is not known whether the Janet was lost going or returning from Kennel Island. [The Janet was of 22 tons gross register, and was built at Auckland in 1875. She was at ono time owned by Messrs J. Endean and E. Parris, and was of the following dimoiidona : —Length 46ft Bin, breadth 16ft, and depth 6ft. Messrs Tyndall and Ross carry on an extensive tradein the Friendly Island group, and the schooner Ys-abei was employed for many years trading between Tonga and Auckland.]
