• SALES TO-DAY. Wellington.—Sale reported : Waihi, £2. THE CROPS. Reports as to grain yields continue to bo good (reports the Oamarn 'Mail'), -wheat returns of from 50 to 60 bushels per acre and a little over-in a few instances having been obtained, while in one case 70 bushels is said to have been the average for a fair area. There are some who aver that the general result will bo a record average yield of wheat per acre for the county, whiß'i would mean something over 41 bushels an acre, which, we believe, stands as the record for Waitaki County. While we aro not prepared to go the length of saying that that record will be broken, we foel assured that the average will not fall far short of 10 bushels per acre,, which will mean an increase of rally 30 per cent. on the original estimate. As to oais, the yields, t-alcon in the aggregate, are proving remarkably good, and an avorage of 55 bushels per aero for the wholo county is considered a conservative estimate. Two cases of 130 bushels per acre are reported to hove been secured. In Canterbury the wheat yields are said .to be exceptionally good, and as nearly the whole of the wheat is grown in Canterbury and North Otago it is quite possible that the present harvest will establish a record production per acre for the whole of the Dominion. Oats are also threshing out well in Oanterbui-y; but in the South, where the greater area in this cereal is generally found, the crops are reported to be little, if anything, above the average, and a new record for the DoEpnrion cmi scarcely be looked for.
