MAROONED CROWN PRINCE

LIFE ON DUTCH ISLAND. A special correspondent of tho ‘ Amsterdam Telegraph’ has been able to obtain some new and picturesque details concerning the life of the ex-Crown Prince of Germany on the little island of Wieringen, in the Zuydsr Zee. The daily occupations of tho younger Wilhelm in his place of exile form an amazing contrast to the role he was playing only a few months ago, when ho was a firo-©auing militarist of the most approved Prussian typo, and a consistently unsuccessful leader 'of German armies. Already he has made many friends amongst the residents on Wieringen Island, his chief companions being farmers and farm-workers, with whom he frequently plays billiards, hia favorite indoor game, treating his _ companions to beer and to cigarettes, which he himself lights for them. No ons oouid ho ' more democratic than is the Hohenzollern heir to-day. He is highly popular with the village children, with whom he sometimes plays, liberally providing them with coppers for sweets and toys, and he chats _ quite familiarly with the housewives of Wieringen. In one respect the ex-Grown Prince imitates the habito ef Napoleon on the island of St. Helena. Almost every day he walks to the sear front and stands for a long time : with bis hands behind his back, gazing seawards with set face. The vicarage in which lie lives ho has rented furnished for a period of six months for 2,000 guilders (about , £170).
