OLD IDENTITIES

The quarterly meeting of the Tort Chalmers Old Identities’ Association was hold in tho Town Hall yesterday evening. There was a very good attendance ot the members. Tho president (Mr J. M Lachlan) was in the chair. , . , The Chairman expressed gratification at tho wood attendance, remarking that not the feast gratifying feature of the gathering was tho evidence of the increasing membership and tho lively interest displayed in tho welfare o£ tho association. Ho then referred to the success of their recent annual picnic, and tho pleasure it was to have members of the Dunedin and Waikouaiti Associations participating hr tho day's outing. Ho had received from tho local Presbyterian Church an invitation to the members of tho Association to bo present on Sunday morning, and he hoped to see tho association well represented at the sendee. Tho presentation of a past president’s badge was then made to Mr D. A. Do Mans, who, in replying, in appreciative Lathis tJie honor ho dconicu it to possess tho badge. Tho reminiscence of the evening was tho reading of a paper by Mr W. C. Fair, describing th© history of tho hulk Don Juan, and showing how this old vessel after her somewhat dramatic detention from further seagoing activities, was for many years a familiar object on tho waterfront. Mr Fail was heartily _ applauded for his interesting contribution. , An enjoyable social programme was given by Misses Baton, Jacobs, Inder, and Flynn, Mrs J. Morgan, and Messrs Do Mans, Bauchop, Cook, Brydono, and Osborn, Miss Inder also playbig the accompaniments. The President mentioned that the combined ages of five members present amounted to 390 years.
