OTAGO BOXING ASSOCIATION

The fourteenth annual meeting of the Otago Boxing Association was held last evening. There was a good attendance of members. Mr T. M Gillies presided. The annual report stated that the past season had been enjoyable. Three onenight tournaments had been held. The proceeds of the last one, together with donations received, enabled the committee to hand over £6O ro the local Red Cross Association for the Montecillo Convalescent Homo. All the tournaments provided keen competition. Now the war was over, and peace likely to bo settled in a month or two, there was likely to bo a revival of boxing, and it behoved members to “ boost ” the sport along and endeavor to make the association the niost successful in the Dominion. The competitors showed a pood knowledge of the art, due, no doubt, to the good teaching they had received, and to their physical fitness due to strict training. As practically all experienced boxers were away at the front, no championships were held during the year. The membership for the year was 88, ns against 96 for the previous year. The balance-sheet showed a credit of" £52 7s lOd. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report, said that there was cause for satisfaction in the success of the past year. Owing to the absence of so many men on active service, competition had been reduced. In spite of this fact, good form had been shown, and it was evident that boxing as a sport was going ahead. Boxing had the approbaho.il of the highest ranks in the Army and Navy, and also of His Majesty the King. So long as boxing was web conducted, it would always be one of the noblest of manly sports. The report was adopted. The following office-bearers were elected for the_ ensuing year:—President, Dr L. H. M'Bride 5 vice-presidents—Messrs T. Gillies, S. S. Myers, H. H. S. White, F. J.
