JUNIOR LAWN TENNIS

Tlic Junior Lawn Tennis Association have arranged a schools tennis tournament, to be played during March. There are championship and handicap events for both girls and boys, and the entries for the girls’ events, which closed yesterday, were most gratifying, no fewer than 75 girls entering for the singles, 80 girls for the doubles, and 16 for the championship singles. The collegiate schools represented are Archerfield, Columba, Girls’ High, St. Dominic’s, and St. Hilda’s, Play will commence on Saturday morning at 9 o’clock on the Otago and Gniversity courts, which have been lent for the tournament. The entries promised from the Boys’ High School alone are sufficient in number to ensure success. A pleasing feature of the tournament is the interest shown by old tennis sports in the play of the juniors. Mr E. G. Reynolds, president of the Otago High School Old Bovs’ Association, has presented a trophy for the boys’ championship, and -Messrs R. S. Black, vice-president of the Otago Lawn Tennis Association), J. L. Sftlmond (president of the Roslyn Lawn Tennis Club), and A. Xicolson (of the Moana Lawn Tennis Club) have forwarded trophies for the boys’ handicap events. Mr B. B. Couston (president of the junior association) has presented a trophy for the girls’ 'championship), and Mr A. E._ Harraway | (president of the senior association) and Mr R. K. Black (vice-president) have not only provided trophies for the girls’ handicap* events, but, as the entries were so numerous, have also donated prizes for the runners-up.
