OTAGO MOTOR CLUB

Tho monthly meeting of the Otago Motor Club was held last night. There was a good attendance of members. Tlie president (Ma- A. E. Ansell) occupied the chair. The Under-Secretary for the Department of_ Internal "Affairs wrote stating that the Minister intended to bring down a Motor Bill at the first opportunity and that he would be pleased to submit it to the New Automobile Union and affiliated association for any suggestions and remarks they might desire to make. The clerk of the Portobello Road Board wrote stating that the letter of the <-lub referring to the opening of tho Lower Portobello load to Wickliffe Bay for motor traffic had been received by the board.— It was decided to ask the chairman of the board to meet the executive of the club on p, date to be arranged. A letter was received from the clerk of the Waikouaiti County Council "stating that the council agreed to meet the members of the club in conference to discuss tho question of the repair and upkeep of the Main North road.—lt was decidted to suggest March 24 car 26 as a suitable date for the meeting. The clerk of tho Tuapeka Countv Council wrote stating that the council "had applied to the Government for a grant of £250 (£ for £) for the Beaumont Creek bridge on the main road. The Minister of Lands had promised to support this vote when visiting Lawrence recently. He Hod been directed by his council to apply to tho club for a subsidy or donation of £IOO on account of the work, as the council were providing other bridges without assistance.—lt was decided to reply regretting inability to meet tho request owing to the present calls on the club funds. It was decided to endeavor to arrange for two members of the executive to visit Oturohua, Ranfurly, and Waipiata for the purpose of enrolling members, with the ultimate object of forming a branch of the dub in the district. Mr Halliday was appointed to represent the club as a member of tho Public Demonstration Sub-cornniitteo in connection with the peace celebrations. Mr Wilson was appointed to represent the club at the proposed town planning conference and exhibition to be held in Wellington in May, with instructions that he pay particular attention to the question of roads and their planning and construction.
