Goorgo Fintoff was boring for water when a terrific- explosion took place, shinglo being blown over a derrick 30ft high. Flames immediately followed, and the derrick was set on fire and practically wrecked. The exudation continued to burn fiercely until 7 o'clock, when the workers succeeded in plugging the pipe. Opinions differ as to whether the explosion was due. to gas or oil. Indications of petroleum have been noticed in several places in this district.
