CHURCH OF CHRIST

An interesting function was hold at the North-east Valley Church of Christ on Saturday afternoon. The members of that church have for months post boon devoting their spare time to the work of erecting a Bible School hall adjoining their church building. On Saturday the raising of the framed principal rafters upon the concrete walls was successfully accomplished. The building when completed will bo found fitted with movable partitions, running upon on the telescopic principle, so that the size of the teaching compartments can bo obtained at will and an open floor obtained when necessary. It is designed to accommodate 160 scholars, the architect being Mr Alfred Green. The roofing timbers having been hoisted into position, the minister (Air T, Arnold) addressed the workers, expressing his thanks and appreciation of the free labor that had been so generously given, and by which the trustees (Messrs Weir and Beadle) were in hopes of saving something like £l6O of the church funds. There was a vast difference, he stud, between an empty profession of Christianity and the sanctified consecration of our bodies, time, ability, and labor to the sox vice of the Christ and His Church. Tho want of a (separate building for the exclusive work of the Biblo School had boon felt for a very long time, and having paid off all tire' church debt it was thought by some that the time to secure it had how arrived. The excessive price of materials and labor, however, seemed to prohibit such an enterprise, and tho difficulty was only overcome when loyal members of the church volunteered to provide tho labor gratis—so strong was tho love they felt for the children and the gratitude they felt to their Divine Master. Tho ladies of the congregation had inspired the men to proceed steadily with the work, even whan it meant the neglect of their own homes, and some of the lads from tho school had done all that lay in their power to assist the men. The ladieS had provided refreshments for the men, and their aid had been simply invaluable. Ho also thanked Messrs W. Beadle, T. Potts, A> M'Donald, James Turner, and A. Roper for kindly aid. The Union Jack and the school flag wore then hoisted by Masters George South (Loyal Sons) and F. Green (Progressive). The school colors are red and white, signifying that the Blood of Jesus cleauseth from all sin, and that those who call themselves Christians should bo noted for their purity of life. It is expected, that the new building will bo completed and formally opened before tho end of this year. An honors roll, containing the names of the loyal workers, will then, nang within it, together with an enlarged photograph of the minister, who is also superintendent of tho Bible .Reboot, This photo has already been handsomely framed and presented to Mr Arnold by tho teachers and tho members of his “ loyalty class,” together with an address asking that he permit it to occupy a place upon tho walls of tho now school. There will also be. some quaint photographs of the workers at work, in costumes varied and unique. Tho school flag was the gift of Mrs A. Green, and presents a handsome appearance. At the conclusion of tho proceedings the workers and all present were entertained at tea bj’ the ladies.
