THE TREND OF LABOR.
SYDNEY, March 10. (Received March 10, at 10.30 0..m4 The resolutions at the forthcoming Labor Conference will include proposals for a 38-hour working week in all Government departments and in secondary industries, and a 50 hour week for minors. It is also proposed to make voting compulsory and to reduce the voting ago to 18 rears.
A POPULAR CHAPLAIN
SYDNEY, March 9._ The nomination of Chaplain-captain AV.ilson as the Soldiers’ Association candidates for the Petersham hy-election was refused on the ground that his name was not on tho roll. It in stated that the decision affects altogether 3,500 returned soldiers. Mr Holman immediately announced that a special Cabinet meeting would be held on Monday with a view, if possible, to passing validating legislation to overcome the difficulty. DETENTION FOR. SOLDIER POLITICIAN. MELBOURNE, March 9. Gunner Yates, M .1L.1t., has been sentenced to 60 days’ detention in connection with tho Somali' troopship trouble in Adelaide, with a recommendation to mercy on tho ground of tho relaxed conditions of discipline aboard the vessel.
