OBITUARY

Mr N-. E. Beamish, who died at ids residence, Stonoycroft, Hastings, on Monday last, in. his 93rd year, arrived at Lyttelton in 1850 in the sailing vessel Lady Nugent, from Cork. After spending two years at Lyttelton, there being at that time not a house where .Christchurch nowstands, lie became manager of the Hou. W. B. Rhodes’s Heaton Park Estate, Rangitikei, a position which he held for 18 years, when, at the request of hia brother-in-law-, 'Mr Thomas Lowry, be moved to Hawke’s Bay and took over Bio management, of the Okawa Estate. There ho remained for 20 years, afterwards removing to Stoneycvoit, where he resided until the time of his death. Mr Beamish, who was born in 1827. had lived unier five Sovereigns (G-eorge IV., William IV., Victoria. Edward ViL. and George V.). Forty years aso ho purchased the Whana Wha'na run of 10,00-3 acres, which has since been divided amongst his seven children. ’
