LECTURES TO BUSINESS MEN. University extension lectures were commenced in England a good many years ago, and they achieved instantaneous success. These lectures are now looked upon aa a very important, part of university life. Tho United States, Canada, and Australia in turn adopted the scheme, and the results have been moat gratifying. Li the Commonwealth the universities arc largely subsidised for .this particular purpose. 'Die announcement, therefore, that a course of university extension lectures will bo given at Otago University by the. Yen. Archdeacon Woodthurpe, M.A., F.R.E.S., w-ill be read with much interest, and there should be no doubt that this effort on the part of the University to bring University teaching into touch with tho industrial and commercial life of the community will meet with a ready response The subject of the lectures will be 'Some Pressing Problems in Industry .and Finance ' and the course will consist of 24 weekly lectures, each lecture to be folio-ved by an hour's discussion. Archdeacon Woodthorpe has drawn, up an interesting syllabus. Tho first part comprises the introduction of economics, and includes eueh questions as ' Wealth and the Productive Process,' ' The Division of Labor and tho Evolution oi Modern. Industry,' 'Capital and Its Renmneration,' ';Xhe Corporate Organisation of Modern' Industry; and 'The Chffi' Causes that Affect Productive Efficiency.' The of the syllabus i« de\oted"to industrial probl-3ir:s problems in finance, in connection with the former of these sections, lectures which should prove, of absorbing interest to thoso who attend the class will be.those on 'The Cau&as of Industrial Unrest,' 'The Employer and His Problems,' ' The Reconstruction of Industry,' and ' The status of th-y Wage-earner as Affected by the War.'
