Rifleman Lionel F. Miles, who has been reported killed in action, in Franco on August 25, teas the. sixth son of Mr T. J, Mi.es, of 39 Reid road, South Dunedin, He was boni in LawTer.ee. and was educated at the Albany Street and Kensington Schools, He took a keen infertst- in football, and played for the Zingari-Rich-mond fourth grade for two seasons. He left New Zealand with the Ninth Reinforcements, and was wounded in Pec-em-ber, 1917, returning to France early in "May. One brother, who left with the- main body, was killed on Gallipoli, and another brother, who left with the 12th Reinforcements, is still at the front.

Rifleman Thomas Mitchell Abemethy, killed in action, was the eldest son of the Rev. Christopher Abern-i'thy. 47 Matson's load, Christ-church. He left- a-s a corpora! in the 34rd Reinforcements, and on arrival in Entrland was sent to hospital suffering from th»3 effects of a severe cold. Hs' had evidently not been Ion;; in France before he v,-as "killed. Rifleman Abemethy completed his education in Dunedin, and before onlisting lived in "Wellington, where Tip was connected with an uncle's firm. J. W. Shorland and Co. A younger brother. Lieutenant K. S. Abemethy, died of wounds in Flanders on August- 16, 1317, and the only remaining brother. Lieutenant R. C. Abemethy, M.C., is on active- service in Persia.
