MELBOURNE, September 24. A private conference between the newspaper proprietors and the Paper Controller discussed tho curtailment of the importation of paper. Mr Watt (Acting Prime Minister), speaking at the annual conference of the Women's National League, reiterated his warning that much heavier taxation was coming in the Budget. They must find £6,500,000 for Avar pensions, interest, and sinking fund. They must reduce the consumption of paper and limit tho importation of petrol. ADELAIDE, September 24. The Government refuse to investigate the police grievances until the 300 resignations are withdrawn.
