The daffodil fete opened this afternoon. and is to bo open this evening. It was arranged by the Knox Church Young Women’s BcDcty in aid of tho soldiers’ gift fund. \V« compliment the members of the society on the very fine display. Tire 13 competitive classes in daffodils, judged by Mr Tannock, make up a very attract!vo table, and in addition there arc for exhibition only some exceptionally good seedlings grown by Mr A. Millar, of hicrr.ingtoii, and a dozen blooms of Bermdino from the Rev. E. Eva n Davies's garden. The decorative oection is quite a feature, as may be imagined from the tiedemc-ut that there are 11 tables and 16 bowls, borides baskets and vases, bliss Smith is first, Miss W ITislop second, and Miss M. Hutchison third in the class for tallies in t!-.e decoration of which narcissi arc used; and in tho class in which narcissi are barred Mrs iS. Holmes is first, Miss Paterson second, and sliss Cooke third. The baking competition lias attracted many entries. In the fruit cake class Mrs Blm'vpgs first and Miss Gillies second. The a-veet.s competition is another feature. Apart from the daffodils there is plenty c-f merit in the flowers. One table canies no fewer than 540 hyacinth blooms.
