Tho Governor-General arrived in Dunedin last might from the North. This morning His Excellency visited the Red Cross Convalescent Homo at Montecillo, where he was received, bv the president and other members of tho executive of the Red Cross Bociety. This afternoon His Excellency held an investituro of tEe Order of too Britito Empire- in the Art Gallery. This evening Lord Liverpool vril present medals in the Kensington Hall to the next of kin of soldiers who bavo distinguished themselves ca the field of battlo.

Our Christchurch correspondent advises that four more pupils took their flying tickets in the Aviation School yesterday, am one them being J. J. Laffey, of Dunedin. Mr Frank Levy is in town making arrangements for 'the forthcoming Allen Doono season.

Mr J. M'Donald, of tho Lands and Survey Department, is notified _of his promotion to an important position on the headquarters staff at Wellington. He came to Dunedin from the Southland office IS years ago, and has proved a highly efficient officer, much respected not only by tho staff but also by the public. This morning Mr Robt. T. Sadd, Commissioner, presented to Mr M'Donald a parting gift in the shape of a suit case on behalf of the staff, and said that his services hero had been very highly valued, and that the staff here would bo very sorry to lose hia companionship, though they were pleased for his own sake that his work had been recognised by the promotion. Dr Arthur S.' Moody, of Out-ram, has received a communication to report for duty in Wellington on 28th September prior to embarking on active service. Mr R. A. Buchanan, of the local Telegraph Office, has received notice of his appointment to Postmaster, Clyde. Mr Buchanan leaves for Clyde on Saturday next.
