The following telegram was forwarded to-day bv the Canterbury Employers' Association to Sir James Allen (Acting Prime Minister) and the Hon. W. P. S. MacDonald (Minister of Mines): Re coal mining dispute. The Gairterbuxv Employers' Association protest against any proposal to set up a. Royal Commission, with power to override the provisions of the Arbitration Court awards or registered industrial agreements, and suegest that matters such as. coal prices and shipping rates should be investigated by the Board of Trade. Wo strongly urge that you support the action taken by the "Coal Mine Owners' Association. We would point out the high wages earned and BhoTt hours worked by the miners. The Government should maintain a strong attitude crrainst the claims made by the Miners' Federation. At a large meeting of the importers, manufacturers, and business men of Wanganui, a resolution was carried in the terms of the Christchureh Employers' Association telegram, which appears above. Press Association messages from Wellington, New Plymouth, and Hawke's Bay show that the" same resolution was carried by the Employers' Associations at those places.
