CRIMINAL SITTINGS
INVEROARGILL. In the Supreme Court yesterday, before Mr Justice Sim, Frank Hughes, who «as charged with entering, and theft, and w&o had a bad record, waa declared an habitual criminal. Hairy Cooper Douglas pleaded guilty to two charges of receiving stolen goods, and was sentenced to two years' imprisonment on each charge, the sentences to be cumulative. Rangi Otene Rapika was convicted on a charge of obtaining money by false pretences, and was ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. Arthur H. P. Fenn, who had forged a cheque for £7O, and uttered it, •was sentenced to reformative detention for a. period not exceeding five, years. NAPIER. In tie Supremo Court yesterday Francis Norton Thompson, tolicdtor, Hastings, was charged with the theft of trust moneys totalling £1,780 from a client named Gotfried Petrowski. The jury disagreed, and a new t/rial was ordered. Henry Marten, a ton manager, was charged with the theft of five cattle from the bankrupt estate of F. Cassin. The accused claimed an interest in these, and he was found not guilty. Stanley Alexander Lawless was found not guilty on, a charge of indecent Assault.
