THE COAL CRISIS

POSITION UNCHANGED. [Per United Pbjsss Association.] WESTPORT, August 26. The mining dispute is stall unsettled. Deputies were prepared to resume work at Stockton to-day, but the miners apparently were not prepare*! to do so, pending some definite act-ion in regard to the demand for a2O per cent, increase. Mi 11 orton is also again idle, but ai. Denxiistou work was uninterrupted. There is a prospect of resumption of work at all mines on Wednesday. LATEST FROM THE COAST. WESTPORT, August 27. The Denniston mine is still working. Put the output is very small, and the railway yard at Westport is still congested with long strings of empty coal waggons, a rather pathetic sight when it is remembered that the times are already dull. A goodly number of colliers who were putting in time in town returned to their country residences to-day. It is freely mentioned that work -will be resumed at all the mines to-morrow, but there are no substantial reasons for the statement. The 1 Westport Times ’ learns by telephone that it is the genera! impression round about Mi Herron that the men are not going back to work.
