gold-bearing ore was found in calcite. In this mine in 1912 two hundredweight of .stone yielded 35 per cent, of gold. The rich field in Victoria was reported by the Hit and Miss prospecting party, operating ,■'* Little VJeiuiiuo. north of Ballarat East. For the period ended June 29. the WaihiPaeroa Company treated 11,800 tons of tailings, for bullion valued at £2,900, compared with the corresponding period last vear, when 13,200 tons yielded £4,650. the total for the six months is £19,050, compared with £26,750 last year. The total amount won bv the company is £273.061.
