TRANSPORT OF SOLDIERS
DEFENCE METHODS SEVERELY CRITICISED. [Spkcial to the ‘ Star.’] CHBtSTOHURCH. January 10. At a meeting of the Canterbury Automobile Association the following motion was carried :—“ That if the Government desire the association to continue their work of transporting returned soldiers, tho Government must urge the Defence Department to supply them with, more reliable information as to tho time of arrival of trains carrying the men.” In tho course of the discussion Mr M'Kellar said that it was his opinion that the Government did not care a rap for soldiers. Soldiers on leave had'been sent down hero rnd back, and had to sleep on stra-w in the holds. It was a disgrace.
