Official advice has been received by the Minister of Defence that the 31st and 32nd Reinforcements have arrived safely at their destination. THE COMMISSIONED RANKS. In the course of an interview at "Wellington yesterday, Sir James Allen said that at present the commissioned ranks were full. Men who had done good service in the field were returning to New Zealand and were receiving primary consideration. He was, however, trying to arrange with the Imperial authorities for the absorption of capable Territorial officers in tho British Army. Bo far no reply had been received. If tire proposal were carried out it would solve a great difficulty. Constable Macartney, of Momiiigton, received word on Wednesday evening that his son Alex, had been wounded for tho second time on December 24. Ho enlisted as soon as ho attained the age of 20, going into camp as an n.c.o. with the 16th Imantry in May. He loft New Zealand as a sergeant with the 18th Reinforcements, and has seen much fighting. He was at the taking of Mossines Ly the New Zealanders, coming through safely, but was wounded in the baud shortly afterwards. Ho rejoined his unit on August 1, and has been iu the firing lino ever since. Jiis parents received a cable on December 17 saying he was c.n furlough in London, so that he must have been wounded immediately on his return. They have had no particulars of tho extent of his injuries. He was educated at Newton East (Auckland), at Wellington College, and afterwards at Waitaki College, where ho was very prominent in athletics,- being a first-class swimmer, a member of the first- fifteen football team, a cricketer, a boxer, and a champion sprinter. At the ago of 19 ho loft to take up a positi-on in the Land and Survey Department, Blenheim, and was there at the time of enlisting.
