,-■ [Per United Phess Associatiok.] AUCKLAND, January 9. The annual conference of the Institute of Surveyors was opened to-day. The reports stated that only half the surveyors of the Dominion were members of the institute. Something was necessary in order to get them all in. It had been suggested that the Government should charge a foe of 2gs as an annual license fee— one guinea to go to the institute, giving every surveyor the right of membership, and also paying the expenses of the Surveyors' Board. .The following officers were elected; President, Mr Hastings Bridge (Christchurch) ; vice-presidents, Mr P. Chambers (Auckland) and Mr H. Sladden (Wellington) ; treasurer, Mr W. C. Smith (Wellington) ; secretary, Mr C. D. Morris (Wellington).
