A. new regulation has been gazetted prescribing tho fees for annual warrants to manufacture cigarettes, in conformity with the provision in the Finance Act fixing the minimum fee at £lO instead of £1 per 1,000. The fees for warrants now are:— For up to 25,000 cigarettes, £10; over 25,000 but, not exceeding 30,000, £l2; for every additional 5,000, £2. In the event of the quantity stated in the annual warrant being completed, no further warrant will be issued. A deputation of Auckland manufacturers waited on the Minister of Customs, the Hon. A. M. Myers, last week in regard to the new regulations, Mr Myers explained that the Finance Act provided for a minimum fee of £lO, but under the regulations the local cigarette manufacturers are not in a worse position than before the passing of the Finance Act. He drew attention to the fact that the duty on imported cigarettes had been increased by 8s per 1,000, so that the new fee of £lO.
