CONTRACT FOR BOOTS.

MINISTER EXPLAINS POSITION. Referring to a- statement recently published to the effect that a boot nunnifacturer had been fined £2OO by ilio Hon. A. M. Myers for a breach of contract with the- department, and the further p.iatement that the report referred to a boot manufacturer of Auckland, M.r Myers stated that the reason the name of the firm had not been made public was that no inferior material had been used in the manufacture of the boots rejected, the justification for the fine being that one of the firm's employees had used shorter tacks in the heels than wore stipulated [or, causing the heels to become loose, The Minister said he had seen Mr Adam .Moore (of Messrs Adam Moore, Ltd.), of Auckland, the firm concerned, and that it was Mr Moore's desire, with the. concurrence of himself, that the name should bo made public. Sir Myers pointed out that Mr Moore had supplied over 50,000 pairs of boots to the Defence Department, and up to the delivery referred to bad given every satisfaction.
