CITY COUNCIL REPORTS
The Works Committee report bavins instructed the City Engineer to record the following matters for consideration tvith the allocations for next year—viz., the improvement of the roadway in Alva street; petition from Chas. Arnold and others for improvements to Glencairn street, North-east Valley; petition from M. Mee and others for improvements to the footway in Alexandra street, 'Caversham.
The Water Committee report having instructed that tenders bo invited ior thefive years' lease of part, of the land known, as ""Proctor's," at the Leith. Saddle, and containing about 16£ acres'. Part of the a.rea wilt require to be, fenced, and authority has been granted to have this done at an"estdmated -oust of £lB. The land is not in the -watershed proper. The Electric Power and Lighting Committee report having furaMied rates and conditions of supply of electrical energy to residents of Pcrtobella and Broad Bay for lighting at alternative rates set forth in minute by the electrical engineer. The quotation of Messrs Samuel Brown, Ltd., for the supply and delivery, ci.f., Dunedin, of 150 natural round hardwood poles for the sunr of 32s per pole has been accepted. As medical attendance at the Falls is somewhat expensive, the fee being' £5 5s per visit, authority lirs been granted for the department to pay half the' fee in each case where an employee finds it neoessary to bring a doctor to the Falls. The. annual cist will- probably not be more than £2O. The Finance Committee recommend that a grant be made to the dependents of the late chief works inspector (Mr M'Lachlan) of an amount equal to his salary for a period of six months. The total sum involved.is £145./ "
