The death of the Rev. J. Sharpe, an old and very highly-respected minister of the Methodist Church, occurred at Mount Eden, Auckland, on Monday. Mr Sharpe was suddenly taken unwell, and fell down at the gate of his residence, dying almost immediately. He joined the Primitive Methodist Ministry in 1871, and afterwards Vent over to the United Church,' and during his ministry from 1871 until > Iris retirement in 1910 he had charges at Dunedin, Invercaxgill, and Edendale. He was president of the Primitive Methodist Conference in 1839, and again in 1905. After his retirement in 1910 he served as a supernumerary, and at the time of his death was doing supply service at Takapuna. Colonel 'Fenwick, 0.M.G., has been appointed to the command of tho Codford .Military Hospital (near London). Colonel Fenwick left with tho Main Body, and went through.- the Gallipoli campaign. Returning to New Zealand for a brief period, he left again with the 13th Reinforcements. He has. been several times mentioned in despatches, and was awarded the G.M,G. when the recent Birthday honors were announced.
A Press Association message from Wellington announces that Colonel L. W. Loveday, for many years prominent in Dominion military circles, died this mornJng; aged 71. Mr Robert Blair, late Sunday .School Extension agent for the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, has been appointed field secretary with the Y.M.O.A. Be expects to go to France soon. The 'Wyndham Farmer' hears on reliable authority that Mr 3?. W, Homer, who has been practising as a solicitor in Wyndham for the past two and a-half years, has disposed of his practice in order to proceed to the. front as field seareta-ry in the Y.M.C-A interests. Daring his residence in Wyndham, Mr Horner took an active part in matters for the public weal, and has been a great worker in the Presbyterian Church. Some time back Mr Horner offered his services as a soldier in the ranks, but waa rejected as msdically unfit. It is an honor to him having been chosen for this position, as he will be the first field secretary that tho Y.M.O.A. officials Ifav© chosen south of Dunedin.
