A FOOL-PROOF TOTALISATOR
Mr W. F. James, who works the D.J.C. ;.Jid other clubs' totalisators, is an engineer by trade, and it has been to him a pleasure, as well as & matter of business to put in some of his time durhig the winter months in building a new tota.lis.atoi- to the order of BlomfeUl and Co., of Auckland. It is a 24-hor«e machine, its specialties being that it shows the divideuds as well as the investments. hlso that, the, figures cannot, "ceck" or get out. of alignment. Mr James is the holder of a patent for each of these specialties. He recently made, a similar totalisator for the Oainaru Trotting Club. This is the fourteenth machine tinned out at his workshop in Moray place east, and it is certainly tho best wo have ever seen—the best because it is absolutely simple in construction, having no gear that can get out of order, and being so easy to work that a. fool' cannot put- it wrong. Various other time-saving devices are also brought into use, <=o that the. machine cart be taken to bits and put together in no time. The design and tho workmanship axe fust-class. On seeing the machine running we suggested the na-oo of " Tne Pool-Proof," and Mr James may perhaps adopt that as its title.
