THE WAR LOAN
WHY IT SHOULD BE SUPPORTED. FINANCE' AID WANTED BESIDES MORE MEN.The Right Hon. W. P. Massey, Prime Minister, has issued the following to the people of the Dominion : I am clad to see that the loan is being well received, and I believe we shall all have reason to bo proud of the result. New Zealand has done -well in other directions so far as the war is concerned, and now is tho opportunity of showing what we are willing to do in connection with its. finance. As an investment, the loan is one of the best that has ever been offered to the public. The investor has the whole Dominion for security, and tie rate of interest in any other" than a war period would be looked upon as very high. It is, however, for patriotic and imperialistic -reasons that I trust tho public of New Zealand will look favorably upon the loan. Wc have reached that stage of the war when the financial burden presses heavily on all the nations engaged and with crushing weight on some of them. The United Kingdom has cheerfully shouldered far more than her .share of the everincreasing load, but it is clearly our duty now as an important part of the Empire to assist in finance, as we have already, done in men and in munitions of war. No section of the British public is better able to do its duty than the people of this country, and I confidently trust the response will bo worthy of the reputation, which New Zealanders enjoy as patriotic citizens of the Empire.
