At the annual meeting of the Canterbury Sheepowners' Union a deputation was appointed to wait on the Prime Minister regarding the discrepancy between the prices of Argentine and New Zealand meat in London. It was also resolved that the Prime Minister should be notified that the producers were not satisfied with the method of dealing with New Zealand mutton and lamb not required for the Arrriy, and that he be asked to make full inquiries in the interest of New Zealand farmers. N.S.W. LOAN. LONDON, August 15. The smallness of the public subscriptions to the New South AVales loan (of which the underwriters were left with 80 fier cent, of the amount on their' hands) is not surprising, considering the bank rate of interest and the growing tendeney of investors not to purchase till after allotment in the hope of securing discount.

Wheat.—The market is weak on the heavy decline in America. Visible supplies, 87,098 quarters. At Chicago there was a sharp advance on the official anticipation that the thrashings of spring wheat will reveal that the disaster is worse than was expected. September options, 135 to 142| cents; December options i 138 to 146£ cents.
