Ihere has been a soaking rain since Saturday, and it continues over tho greater part of New South Wales and South-east-ern Queensland. It is light in other Slates. The winter outlook is good. PRICH OF MEAT. SYDNEY, April 11. (Received April 11, at 9 a.m.) Before the Meat Commission several butchers gave evidence that, despite the high retail prices ruling, they were carrying on business at a loss. This was partlv due to tho scarcity of stock as a result of the drought, They urged that, if the prices were fixed, it should he upon the wholesale, not the" retail, dealers. They also 'favored the grading of meat. COLLIERIES SLACK. SYDNEY, April 11. (Received April 11, at 9 a.m.) ;Eight of the collieries in the Newcastle district are idle, and the others are working, on the average, half-time.
