FOOTBALLERS' ACCIDENT RESERVE FUND

The annual meeting of the above fund was held in Mr E. S. Wilson's board room on Friday evening, Mr J. D. King (presiding). The following report was submitted to the meeting:—ln submitting the 13th annual report, your committee have to report that, owing to the great war in which our Empire is at present engaged, and the fact that so many Rugby players have enlisted for active service, comparatively few_ players took advantage of the fund during the past season, as only 72 players were insured under Class L, 80 under Class 11., and 9 under Class HI., making a total of 161 players insured, against 407 the previous season. Consequently, the receipts only amounted to £3O 18s, while the sum of £2l was paid out in claims and interest on overdraft, and printing, stationery, and secretary's salary amounted to £22 19s 7d, making a total expenditure of £43 19s 7d. The season commenced with a debit balance of £149 18s Id, and' the balance-sheet now submitted shows a debit balance of £162 19s Bd. Under the circumstances it is not recommended to continue the fund until the war has terminated. Drs Williams, Ritchie, and Evans acted as doctors to the fund, and we have to tender to them our best thanks for their services to injured players. To the accident secretaries of clubs the committee's thanks are again due for bringing the fund prominently under the notice of their players. The committee also desire to express their appreciation of the services rendered by the members of the St. John Ambulance Association who attended the various grounds and rendered first aid to injured players. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report, referred to the large number of footballers who had gone to the front. He considered that the fund should stand in abeyance until the war is over. The following were appointed a committee : —Messrs J. D. King, H. A. Cook, J. Foley, R. M'Dermid, A. Low, and G. Freeman. It was resolved that the fund stand in abeyance until after the war is over.
