SOME A GTE*. Generally speaking, tlio fishing so far since tho opening of tlio. season last Friday has not been so good as usual. This may bo wholly accounted for by tho scarcity of rain during tho past lew months. ,\JI tho streams are reported as being exceptionally well stocked, and no doubt after the recent rain tail the sport should improve, and be even potter than in former years, owing to tlio milder weather. The Acclimatisation Society have already distributed two-year-old fish, and have almost completed tho distribution of yearlings. They have also allotted the supply of fry for distribution during next month. Reports from Milton state that all fishermen last week-end got some fish, but there were no large baskets, the average being to 4Jdh. A number of anglers have been out on the Molyneux, some of whom did very well, securing fish up to 11-jlb. 'file Owaka has l>een providing fair sport, but the .fish taken so far have not been large. Tho Glonoainaru lias Ivon rather low, but should now, after tlio rain, he in much improved condition. A number of Dunedin anglers patronised tho Waikonaitl last week-end, and everyone succeeded in landing one or more fish. ■Several big fellows were secured, tho largest being about 6ilb. Mr A. Wilson took a nice basket on tlio Upper Waitati on the opening day. The Water of Leith lias been fairly well patronised by local anglers. Mr Lslip, on tho opening day, secured, a fair basket, tho three best fkh being 2jlh, IJlb, and lib respectively. The larger fish were not in first-class condition. Shag River has been exceedingly low, and so far has not provided much sport. Mr J. Hutchison, fishing between Palmerston and Glenpark, managed to obtain a basket of six This stream will probably be better after tho rain, though it requires a really good flood to put it iu firstclass order. A good, many anglres patronise the. contour channel at Berwick, and several very fair Iraskets have been mad®, though, no. large, fish are reported as having been caught.
