Sir,- -Civilisation has been defined as the conquest of the earth by science and the struggle to bring about universal happiness for man : but this can only be achieved by bringing spirit into effect—spirit behind the battery and magazine rifle. Now. the spirit of the Allies and the spirit of Germany is contradiction—contradiction morally and spiritually and this is what we are fighting against. “Woe to the vanquished.” the Kaiser has said, German hegemony, and Ger!""n kn.tnr ahme will bo permitted.
