BURNING FATALITY.
TWO PEOPLE PERISH. [Specul to the 'Staii.'] CHRISTCHURciT September 22. Mrs C'ookson's new two-storied bungalow, situated in Idris road, Eendalton, was destroyed by fire Mrs cookson and her grandchild ' two years old perishing. Mrs Cookson was a well-known Christehureh resident and was living with her son. Mr •>■ n. Cookson, an accountant. Two other sons are at the Dardanelles. J he child was a daughter of Mr Fred \\. iM-eoman, surveyor, who married -Mrs Cookson's daughter. Mrs Cookson and the child were the onlv occupants of the house when the' outbreak occurred. The neighbors burst open the doors, and started to remove the rurmture; and were unaware that anyone was in the house. They were however, soon driven out bv the"flames' -Mrs Cookson and the child must have been suffocated long before the flames reached them. The house was beyond the city boundary, and the fire brigade did not turn out. Nothing could he done out watch the place burn. Mrs Cookson's daughter is nurse in the Chnstchurch Hospital.
