DUNEDIN COMPETITIONS
Seventh Day.—Wednesday Mr J. B. M'Oonnell and Mr G. T. M'H« roy are the candidates selected for recall in the champion, reciting contest. The others who appeared before Mr Paine in the preliminary this morning were Mr W. L. Sutherland and Mr A. A. Low. Two piecos were set—'Satan's Address to the Sun' (Milton) and ' The Twins' (Henry S. Leigh). Mr Maclean, the musio judge, listened to six performances of Tschaikowski's 'Troika' by amateurs under 18 years who have never won a first prize at the Dunedin Competitions. The recalls are Miss D. Naumann, Miss Nelly Varney, and Miss Agnes Lawlor. Others who competed were -Miss Myra Haugh, Miss Ivy Hume, and Mr Walter James. Four competed in the violin solo, the 'Fantasia Appassionato,' by Yieuxtemps, for amateurs 16 years and over, and MiMaclean intimated that Miss Iris Jacobs, Miss Gourlay, and Mr Leonard Swan would be recalled. The other competitor was Mr Louis Spiro. At to-night's session the three contests above mentioned will be brought to a finish, and patrons will also have the pleasure of hearing the finals of the champion vocal solo for ladies, and other items. To-morrow, during the day, there will be the own selection piano solo and a violin contest, whilst in the afternoon the contralto solo, the champion vocal solo for gentlemen, and the Burns song will be taken.
