OPIUM AND BRANDY
CHINESE CONVICTED. [Feb United Press Association.'] INVERCARGILL, August 25. Wong Aoung, 3 Chinaman, was charged with selling liquor within- the No-lioense district of Invercargill, and pleaded guilty. _ Defendant was cook at an hotel at Orepuki, and was allowed so much brandy regularly by his employer. He had been in the habit of saving this up, and finally sold four bottles at 5s 6d each to another Chinaman in Invercargill shortly before- a Chinese feast day. A fine of £lO, with 8s costs, was imposed. Loo Lee, a Chinaman, pleaded guilty to having in his possession opium in - a form suitable for smoking. A fine of £2O and costs was imposed.
