The conductor (Mr G. B. Laidlaw) and members of the Kaikorai Band were entertained by Mr J. G. Laurenson (one of the vice-presidents of the band) at his residence on Monday evening. After a substantial supper a short and enjoyable programme of instrumental items was rendered by the bandsmen. Before the proceedings terminated the band president proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the host and hostess for their kind invitation. Mr Laurenson responded, on behalf of Mrs Laurenson and himself, in a few compl rmcntary remarks, in which he referred in tho band's success in the past, and expressed his confidence in its ability to holdi the place as one of the leading kands oi the Dominion. Mr J. S. Douglas, chairman of the Duncdin Drainage Board, has been appointed an assessor, as a representative of the board, in connection with the claims for registration under the present Act. It appears that a number of drainers have no* been granted registration for some reason, and these men are appealing against what they consider to he an injustice.
