LATE SHIPPING
AKRIVED.—June 8. Whakatane, s.s. 18.20 a.m.), 5,754 tons, Squires, from London via St. Helena. SAILED.—June 7. Kia Ora, s.s. (11 a.m.), 6,534 tons, Macfie, for Wellington. Kia Ora, s.s., sailed from Port Chalmers yesterday to continue her Homeward loading at Wellington. WHAKATANE FROM LONDON. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Whakatane arrived at Port Chalmers this morning from London via Si Helena.
She left London on April 7, and caiied at St. Helena, wheTe 93 miles of telegraph cable was landed. After a stay of three days she proceeded south, and after passing the Cape of Good Hope three days' of bad weather was experienced. Then more moderate weather' prevailed until May 24, when a severe gale was encountered. Afterwards fine weather prevailed to arrival at Otago Heads at 2.19 this morning. Tho voyage was uneventful. The Whakatane, which conies here a light ship, berthed at the Bowen pier to get ready for going on the loading berth. Captain J. H. Squires is in command, and his officers are Messrs F. Patinson (chief), C. l)e Lacroix (second), R. Langston (third), B. F. Carrington (fourth). Mr A. Nicholson is chief engineer, and his assistants are Messrs Morgan (second). Brown (third), Tawsley (fourth), Richardlon (fifth), Singer (chief freezer), and Smith (second freezer). Mr Vardon is chief steward. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS.

BLUFF, June 8.—2.30 p.m., Mokoia, from Hobart (with an English mail).
