LODGE MEETINGS
The Hope of I>unedia .Lodge of Good Templars held their -weekly meeting on Friday evening in their lodge room, the C.T. presiding, One candidiate was initiated. Among the correspondence was a letter from the Pioneer Lodge convey*ing their sympathy and condolence in t&e ' loss sustained by the death of Sister Brennan, D.S.J.W. It was resolved to attend officially and .also attend* at > tbe Garrison Hail at th« ' demonstration.. arranged' Jby the Reform Council, to whom the lodge are affiliated. Owing to a rearrangement of officers Bro. Brennan was elected to'the'office of secretary and Bro. Adams to the office of financial secretary. They were installed by the.L.D., Bro. Danlop, and briefly returned thanks tor the honor conferred on them. As the lodge had to attend on Monday at the Garrison Hall it was resolved to ask the Lily of the Valley Lodge to agree to a postponement of the initiation contest for one week. The lodge attended, as arranged, the church parade, at the Hanover Street Baptist Church last c-ven- | ing, there being a good turn-out of mem- ! bers. The service was conducted by the Rev. R. S. Gray, who preached from the lesson contained in Paul's injunction to the Romans.: "It is good neither to eat flesh nor drink wine nor anything that eauseth thy brother to stumble." The address was eloquent and instructive, and was listened to earnestly by the large congregation. He commended the work in which the various Orders were engaged, whose, ultimate aim was the overthrow of the liquor traffic, ■ and which was protected now by such an undemocratic vote as the three-fifths.
The Rescue Lodge held their weekly meeting in the lodge room, Kensington, when the C.T. presided. It was decided that the lodge attend the church parade officially. It was also resolved that the lodge visit the Lily of the Valley officially on some future date. - The item for the evening was ' Dutch Auction,' hut owing to the small attendance of members it was postponed.
