SENIOR GRADE. The fivf» senior grade matches on Saturday resulted as follows: Northern 1, Ravensbonrne 0. Kaitangata 5, Green Island 0. Christian Brothers 3, Mornington B 2. High School Old Bovs 2, Mornington A 2 - Roalyn-Waiari 5. Maori Bill 1. Northern have now get ,a five-paint lead ia the championship competition, and are the only team without a The positions as. Tegards points are:—Northern 14. Kaitangata 10, Ravens-bourne 9, Green Island -8. High School Old.Boys 7, Christian Brothers 7, Roslyn-Wakari 6, Mornington B and A 4 each, Maori Hill 1. It must be confessed that the quality, of senior football is still same, distance short of a magnetic standard. The matches on Saturday were keen enough, and marked I*ith energy and determination, but the evidence ot skill was patchy and unconvincing.

Noktherx v. Ravensbocrnt:. These team« played at the Caledonian Ground, which was in bad condition, owing to the mid-week hockey matches. Mr Troup had control of a game which was canly notable for strenuous football. Occasionally it was marred with temper on the part ot a few players. The man who cannot genially take an honest biunp should leave soccer alone and go walking, but acceptance of bumping does npt necessarily involve "booting" by way of retaliation. The referee was rather generou,-, to the playere in the first half hour of the match. In the second spell he exercised a wise Btrictnesa, and taught" a valuable lesson to one player at least—Dallas, of Ravensbourne—who was ordered off for " tactics." As for the game itself, it calls for no labored description. It was vigorous and keen, and occasionally rich in tine movements. Northern were generally the better side. They just managed to register a win, thanks entirely to Campbell, who made excellent use of an-opportunity. Result : Northern 1, Ravensbourne 0.

Kosltx-Wakari v. Maori Hill. The above match was played on theOear in the presence of a fair number of spectators. Roslyn-Wakari undoubtedly proved themselves the superior eleven, and won handsomely by 5 goals to 1. It was a fairly good game to witness, the outstanding "feature being the neat combined play exhibited by the winners. In the opening stages of the fir6t spell, Maori Hill imoarted plenty of vigor into their work, and Were credited with ficoring the goal. Howver, the Whites!, afterwards rose to the occasion, and dealt severelv with the Maori Hill defence. When half-time was called the score. Tead : Rcslyn-Wakari 5-1. The beginning of the next spell opened tamely, out aa time wore on Maori Hill's play again became ragged, and ultimately Roslyn-Wakari found no difficulty in adding two more goals to their total. Mr A. Rjgby, who controlled the game, had tin? unpleasant duty to order off "W. Donaldson tlUwlyn-Wakaris centre forward).

K.VTTAXGATA V. GREEN ISLASB. These two teams met at Culling Park en Saturday, and furnished a good hard game. There was nob very much to choose between the two sides in the first spell, except that Kaitangata played together better, and in this direction they were superior all through. At half-time the Blacks led by a .goal to nothing, and from this on they gradually wore the Green Islanders down, and added four more, goals in the second spell, the match ending : Kaitangata 5 goals, Green Island nil. The- goal-getters were G. Richardson (21, J. Thompson (2), and James Rarity. Mr Dancey was a capable referee.

Morsisgtox A v. High School Old Boys. The above match was played at the Gardens awl provided a fast and even contest. Mornington played with 10 men during the great part- of the first spell. which ended with Old Boys two goals to the good. Mornington attacked vigorously in the second half, and succeeded in puttine on a couple of goals, thus making the scare even. The hill team were having the better of the exchanges, but. were unable to penetrate the defence of Clark and Allan. In the closing stages Old Boys pressed hard, but -were unable to score. Mr -Timlin made an efficient referee. Tinal score:—Old Bovs 2, Mornington A 2. "

Morntxgiox B v. Cheisttan Brothers. A strong south-westerly wind was blowing over the Mornington Ground for the above match. Christian Brothers won the tosa, and played with the wind. The game was fairly open for the hist few minutes, till the Blues pressed, and from a good screw kick near the corner Haig scored. Mornington 1, Brothers 0. Another forward rush from the BJues followed, nut the shot was stopped by the Greens' goalkeeper. A Blue forward seized the ball on the rebound, and scored. Morrison was playing a good game for the Blues, but failed to score on several occasions. Play was up and down the field till, from a corner kick for the Greens, Moynihan scored. Mornington 2, Brothers 1. The game now became- faster, and the Greens' goal was besieged, but a kick over the line relieved. Greens retaliated, and a good dribhling rush resulted in Moynihan evening the score. Just on half-time Newman centred in front of Blues' goal, and'Walp lin headed the ball into the net. Momington 2, Brothers 3. There was no further score in the game, both team* trying hard to score, but defence and attack on both sides was perfect. Mr Brown had control vi the game.
