GOLF

ST. CLAIR CHAMPIONSHIP. On Saturday D. M. Irvine and A. R. Barron, who the previous week had finished all square over the first 18 holes of the final of the St. Clair' Club Championship, played the remaining round, and the match ended or. the 15th green, Irvine winning 5 up and 3 to play. There was a searching north-west wind, which had dried up any casual water on the links, but which made it very cold for the p layers,_ and imposed a fairly severe test on their accuracy. That they wore equal to the occasion is shown by the fact that nothing over a- 5 was recorded in the winning of a hole. Irvine, as on the previous Saturday, made no mistake whatever in his driving; but it was chiefly through his splendid approaching, both long and short, but especially short, that he scored his win.

Barron hardly played such a steady game as the winner, and was obviously not in quit* the form he showed the previous week. He made rather a discouraging start, losing the first three holes, chiefly through failing to gauge the strength of the greens, and later in the round he halved one or two holes where a shade mora luck in putting, would have won them for him. At thelast hols played he had the misfortune to top a mashie shotinto the bunker after two perfect wooden shots into the wind, and Irvine with his third laid a long approach practically dead. Tho final undoubtedly produced excellent golf.

JUNIOR CUP. In this event the finalists were R. Wilson and .1. Bruges, and Wilson won 6 up and 4 to play.

OTAGO CLUB. The St. Andrew's Crass Competition, played on the Balmacewen links, was won by J. H. C. Bond. The best scores were-: —■ J. IT. C. Bond (hep. 8), all square. H. H. Hutchison (4), 2 down. T. A. Young (9), 4 down. G. L. Mahon (12). 4 down. ST CLAIR LADIES. The following is the draw for the second Consolation Match, to be played by the St. Clair Ladies' Golf Club to-morrow :—Mrs Dick v.
