ST. MARYS, MORNINGTON

The annual meeting of parishioners was held in the schoolroom last evening. The vicar (Rev. ¥.. L. Woodhouse, M.A.) presided, and there was a representative attendance of parishioners. The late vicar (Archdeacon Xeild) and Mre Xeild were present. The vicar's Teport stated, inter alia: "I have found a willing and energetic vestry, a self-denying band of Sunday school workers, a choir growing in usefulness under the conductoisnip of Mr Storey, who has just come into our midst, and many other -good working organisations. All this inspires one with hope for the future. Perhaps the most important change made in the parish, .this year has been that made in -connection with, our Sunday school work. A difficulty has largelv and universally been felt in this work "on accou-it of having to group together chi'dien ranging from 9 years up to 16 in ouo room, when such ought really to be dealt with in at least two divisions, if satisfactory work js to be done, and if there is. to .be any ..hope jti keeping the seniors' on at school. This difficulty has ccen overcome to. a large extent by our using the devotional atmosphere of the church for our elder children. We are also developing better and •kindergarten methods for the infants, the younger division of ali being taken in the vicarage. I feel much cheered by these improvements, and am more anymore, sure that they will help the efficiency of. the school. Yoiir vest it are presenting a new doubleenvelope system, which I trust will be j univerj-allv" adopted, as it embodies two j important principles: (1) It puts mission-! arv work as one.with local work, and (2) it "provides for weekly giving, in accordance with the well-known apostolic injunction " . '. The Treasmer {Mr S. P. Mrrams), in moving the .adoption of the reports and balance-sheets, pointed out that the year had been a verv successful one, and ended v.ith a credit balance of £9 10s 7d. One debenture had been paid off during the rear, thus reducing by £3O the amount of debt on the vicarage. The motion, which, was seconded by Mr S. J. Collett, was carried unanimously. The following officers were elected: Vicar's churchwarden, Mr S. P. .Mirams* people's churchwarden, Mr J. Kerr; vestry --Messrs R. Bentham, F. M. Shortt, R. Day, T. F. Holland, A. G. Birt, W. H. Povntz \. V. Winchester, S. F. Whitcombe, J. H. Dickell, and J. S. Ash; asI sHants—Messrs W. W. Davidson, H. Smith, C Bates, A Tordoff, S. J. Cohett, J. M'Lauchlan, W. Boyd, and F. E. M'Governe. It was decided that the double-envelope system be adopted. On the motion of Messrs C. H. Statnam and R. Benthara it was resolved to support the objective and policy of the Bible in State Schools League. After the business had been transacted, refreshments were served by the members of the Ladies' Guild, and a short musical programme was presented, the following contributing:—Mrs- Storey, Mies Kummert, Miss Mitchelsou, Mr Staley, and _Mr Ainger (songs), and Miss Provo (violin solo).
